At last the state of play for mushrooming here may be changing; good rain, not too hot, the ground even feels a little spongy. Picked a good pound and a half or so of horse mushrooms from my regular patch on the way to work, and I see plenty of fairy ring champignons. Is the season finally going to reach Cambridge?

You lucky thing Cab.

Since we've had hardly any rain since April, I fear we won't be seeing many mushrooms this year.

Keep your fingers crossed; you might miss out on the early autumn/late summer crop, but don't let that get you too down. Autumn should bring rain, and mushroom season will continue into winter.

Been rather quiet up until now due to a serious lack of rain, but starting to pick up a fair bit.

I had about a dozen tawny grisettes yesterday, (new patch that I've found - hooray!!) and a horse mushroom.

I've had nothing so far so yesterday I bought some mushroom plugs from eBay.

Ask me again in about a year
