Thank you, everyone It's lovely to have so much support on here.

If you were looking for a local electrician, would you expect him to have a website?

Best of luck Chris - we'll know where to come if we need an electrician in the future!

Not sure if I would expect him to have a website - but it certainly wouldn't hurt.

Word of mouth and a good reputation far out weigh any other form of advertising and it sounds as if you are there already!

We don't have a web site but as said before as long as they are kept updated and look professional they can't do any harm. I think people would be more likely to 'check you out' on the web rather than find you there in the first place.

The very best of luck!

I hope it goes well Vanessa.

Word of mouth is definitely the very best publicity for a spark !

Nice to see a simple website too though.

No, not at all.
If I were looking for an electrician, the first thing I would do is talk to other people. And then I would look in Yellow Pages. I'm pretty sure I wouldn't look online for one.
In fact that I suggest you use your advertising budget in shopping at your local shop!!

Testimonials would be good to have on a website, as well as the obvious contact details and qualifications etc.

Thanks for the feedback on websites. I'll get working on one as soon as I can. Will be good to have one in place BEFORE Chris does the "next stage" and qualifies to install photovolatics etc.

I would say yes, simple website, no frills, with qualifications, and testimonials. I never bother with yellow pages any more, I just look it up on line.

Good luck to you both, I love it when people go self employed. Nothing beats the combination of fear and optimism.

Re website, and I am happy to be shot down on this, may I suggest www.moonfruit.com . It is easy to build a lovely looking site and is free. What you don't get via the free system is an e-mail address but that is easily resolved by getting a gmail one that corresponds to your site name.

Good Luck

OH is an electrician not a million miles from you Vanessa and when he was starting out 3 years ago he got most of his work from the local village newsletter and from an advert in the Blackmore Vale magazine.

I'm not sure if it covers your area but if it does it's worth a try.
