the vpn, bridge and the DS platform seem to work

sorry about chucky, i found it where you see it on a shroom forage, rather disturbing
it gave me a bit of a surprise sitting by one of my shroom trees

i am not an innocent when it gets down to seeing unusual things, but that one is unusual

and it tested the system

Probably everyone should use one. I did a VPN kick starter things years back for a wireless VPM gadget, but it was flaky and I gave up on it.
Which VPN are you on?

avast, at less than half "normal"price by letting them keep asking

it seemed like a sensible experiment, on price and potential effectiveness for £65=two years and 10 devices is cheap

i have used free ones, most are a bit slow on windows, the linuxy one was ok but that was a semi secure rig

there is no privacy in cyberspace, a bolt on the window does discourage the less than talented from intrusion

this avast VPN did not get top reviews, it is a fairly new product, the free and paid for avast things i have used for a decade or so have all been safe, most have been unhindering and those that did not work have been tweaked and updated or made easy to remove

so far it does not hinder, unlike some things or combinations of things

70 down
16 up

a bit faster than it was without the vpn

so far it has caused no issues, things that worked still do

it is not "secure" cos nothing is, but it adds another layer of complexity to repel bad actors with simple siege engines

useful for dealing with "local" restrictions on access to data if the data holder thinks you are local

TOR is more secure but comes with its own "interest groups" who will use traffic analysis even if the details evade them
tor +pgp + public wifi hotspot + burner hardware is semi secure, field craft is also needed to increase the odds of being black while lit up

there is a bit of cross over in this thread

a simple but robust, probably paid for VPN has some merits, it can reduce intrusive adverts(so does other stuff), it can get you "local status" which can be useful, it makes many standard attacks far more difficult

most pooter issues are "user misuse" a vpn catches some of those before they can happen, as well as putting the castle in a mirage on the wrong bit of the map

ps tor is ace in the appropriate circumstances
pps no secure data transfer is secure to those involved

I've heard that not being considered local can also be helpful in certain parts of the world. Ahem.

Thanks DPack. I might look in to getting a VPN.

Also, I'd like to know your thoughts on Windows 11 please?

Oh yes, Shane, what are you up to?

i do turn off some windows features( the voice thing perhaps useful if required, pita when it tries to be helpful because one adjusted one's headphones or booted up the machine etc. worse than the paperclip thing)

Came in handy in the early days when googling things related to dogs, as dogs are haram to the conservative types so dog-related websites were blocked by the state netnanny.

I would never dream of using it for watching UK TV.

(ExpressVPN, before anyone asks).
