Time I stopped lurking and said hello. Thanks to everyone who was so welcoming to my first post. I am not really downsized, I am dreaming the dream rather than living it. I have read with admiration the posts and blogs of those who have crossed the Rubicon into a different lifestyle, but myself, I drive to work even though I could cycle and am not even as scrupulous with the recycling as I ought to be.
I am a keen gardener, but have more success with flowers and fruit than veg. I love making jam, pottery, knitting and crochet. My kids are now 17 and 20 and in the last couple of years, it has been exciting having more time to to do stuff that is not directly productive. Last summer I started to try out using plant dyes, this winter I have been learning to spin, both processes are utterly absorbing. I do have a great friend who will cheerfully have a go at anything I am up to, but really she would paint by preference. I came to this site googling for information on plant dyes and have since also joined a wool craft site called Ravelry - I expect you know it, it's huge. My daughter fixed me up with a blogsite a few weeks ago, she told me if I put myself on line, joined in conversations and wrote about what I like, I would find people who share my interests. So far, I have to say, she really was right.

I just searched the site for 'Skillshare' and saw posts about a weekend in Carmarthen last July - sounded brilliant. Do you have a date set for this year? I'd love to come.

this year is slightly 'confused' by a couple of DS weddings at the same venue so there may not be a formal summer skillshare, but we are toying with the idea of a winter one when it all calms down. I've been talking to Ginkotree about doing some more fibre retreats at her place though, so keep your eyes peeled We flag those fibre retreats up both here and on the Ravelry page for Cwmoernant Farm. There are also regular fibre weeends run by Mochyn up in mid Wales.

I'm not so sure about the weeends this year Sally

Seriously, there probably won't be one until July because of the weddings: we have 4 to go to in the space of 5 weekends... I'll have a look at the hall calendar.

My husband told me about this forum.

We live in the Highlands with our dog and my two cats....pro-nouns are very important!
We used to have bees but had a bad colony collapse before we could expand last year. It would be nice to start keeping them again.

I enjoy cooking, coaching swimming and gymnastics, knitting and swimming. I'm also a member of the local rifle club.

I hope Ive said hello in the right bit!

Hi Midland Spinner, Wentworth, 12Bore

Gosh you were quick!

I better get going, small swimmers to try and interest in improving their swimming.

Will be back later to check out the recipes.
