Not surprised. Magpies are a total menace.

Yes, they are! We get a gang of Azul Magpies sweeping through in the morning and early evening.

Between magpies and gulls my brother's garden has very few small birds.
Just a couple of blackbirds declaring their territory and a couple of starlings.
He is near the edge of Yeovil

there are usually a pair + chicks here, the small birds have adjusted to it over many generations and have chosen safe homes

ditto jackdaws, no problems

grin is a proper raptor and does bother them during visitations and for a few days after a moider

mousetown was/is rather active

3 adults, 2 of which have been chasing about for half an hour or so

i am not sure whether it is romance or territory rivalry, mrs hammi sammison kept out of it while sammi and the other one did benny hill style scampers around the yard

quite funny to watch even if it was deadly serious to them

mrs brack takes no nonsense from the townie pigeons

Did a flora survey in a small part of the woods yesterday. It had been coppiced a couple of years ago, so there is a lot of open ground, and covered in flowers. Haven't counted how many species we found, but it covered 2 sides of an A4 sheet of paper written in single list form. Saw orange tip, brimstone and peacock butterflies and heard a yaffle and wren.

Forgot to say we saw a hare as we were going into the woods a few evenings ago. Looked a bit odd as I couldn't see its ears, but it crouched down and saw the full outline in silhouette.

I see it's already eaten a bit of your wall.

The beech trees in our plantation are now fairly well leafed at the bottom, but tops still bare, so quite a bit of light still. Next door wood is getting very dark as it is fully leafed. Yesterday there was a wren making a lot of itself. We had seen some bluetits building a nest in a piece of equipment in the yard, but no sign of them yesterday.
